CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL) — The city of Cairo was approved for a loan Friday that will go towards helping the city improve its wastewater system infrastructure.

The $800,000 loan comes from Georgia's Environmental Finance Authority through their Clean Water State Revolving Fund and was announced by State Senator Dean Burke (R – Bainbridge) and State Representative Darlene Taylor (R – Thomasville).

Sen. Burke said the loan will help Cairo continue to protect and improve the state’s water resources, and benefit the community as a whole.

“The CWSRF loan will go a long way towards meeting the needs of our community and paving the way for environmental responsibility,” said Sen. Burke. “This loan will help us to continue to protect and improve the state’s water resources, and benefit our community as a whole."

Rep. Taylor added that the timing could not have been better, as it goes along with the city's development plans.

“I am so pleased that the City of Cairo has been awarded the Clean Water State Revolving Fund Loan,” said Rep. Taylor. “It will benefit the entire community and will be instrumental in future development."

CWSFR is a federally-funded program that offers loans for wastewater infrastructure and pollution prevention projects. More information on the CWSRF can be found by clicking here.
