Thomas Tuchel gave a glowing review of academy talent Tino Anjorin during his latest Chelsea press conference.

Anjorin has been involved in several training session with the seniors after being bumped up from the U23s.

He was on the Blues bench for their Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid and earned some minutes in the FA Cup win over Barnsley.

Both of these arrived under Tuchel’s careful gaze.

Chelsea’s manager was asked his thoughts about the 19-year-old’s development.

Tuchel said: “I got to know Tino. I didn’t know much of him. I was very impressed because he’s very physical player.

“Tall guy, strong guy. He has the ability to keep the ball under pressure because he has the body for it.

“He has the physical ability to play and train with us on this level. He had some minutes with Barnsley in the cup game.

“We decided to keep him to get to know him better, not to send him out on loan.

“I’m happy about that. He is very strong in finishing. Very nice character. Nice guy from the academy.

“Very humble. Totally focused. Totally clear when you talk to him. Very self-aware.”

Those associated with Cobham have high hopes for Anjorin, who is one of the few exciting young products not yet to be sent out on loan.

His opportunities under Tuchel have been few and far between because of the vast array of superstars already on display.

However, an FA Cup tie with Sheffield United on Sunday may present Anjorin with an opening in which to showcase his talents.

It will certainly be a fixture Chelsea are expected to win, meaning they can afford to make a whole load of changes from the midweek European clash.

Fringe players like Kepa Arrizabalaga, Emerson Palmieri and Billy Gilmour could all be in with a shot at start.

This also includes Anjorin, who has clearly been earmarked by Tuchel as one for the future.
