$20 million added to Nevada business grant program; deadline is Thursday

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KOLO) - OCT. 21 UPDATE: The state of Nevada is adding $20 million to the Pandemic Emergency Technical Support grant program to help small businesses and community nonprofit groups hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The deadline for application was originally Nov. 2, but it has been changed to Thursday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m. “so that applications can be reviewed, processed and money can be sent out to businesses and organizations in need,” the governor’s added in a press release.

The program opened Monday with an initial budget of $20 million.

“I am pleased to see so many small businesses throughout Nevada taking advantage of this new, streamlined program to get access to relief funding and help stimulate our economy during this crisis,” Gov. Steve Sisolak said in a statement. “I remain committed to ensuring the State help small businesses get the support they need and deserve at this time.”

Businesses and eligible organizations can apply for up to $10,000 in emergency grant money. It is not required to be paid back.

“Small businesses throughout Nevada have been among the hardest hit by COVID-19 and this new program will streamline the process to get relief funding out to folks who need it very quickly,” said Governor Sisolak. “If your organization has been hurt by the pandemic and you need help with operational costs or expenses to keep your customers safe, I urge you to apply. At a time when our small businesses have made such great sacrifices, it was my priority to ensure the State gets them the support they need and deserve.”

The Governor’s Office said the program is a multi-agency collaboration using federal COVID-19 relief funding that will be administered through the Nevada Treasurer’s Office, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and the Department of Business and Industry.

Funds will be available to small businesses, non-profit organizations, arts and culture organizations, and local Chambers of Commerce.

Eligible entities can apply for up to $10,000 in emergency grant funding, which is not required to be paid back. Grant funds can be used to pay for a number of expenses such as: rent, inventory, payroll, utilities, personal protective equipment, and costs associated with retrofits.

The application process opened Monday, October 19, 2020 at 8 a.m. and closes Monday, November 2, 2020 at 5 p.m.
