DURHAM, N.C. – The junior duo of
Bryce Jarvis and
Michael Rothenberg of the Duke baseball team earned 2020 Google Cloud Academic All-America accolades as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) earlier today.
Jarvis and Rothenberg were both named to the All-America Second Team, marking the first year in program history the Blue Devils have had multiple Academic All-Americans. The selections mark Duke's sixth and seventh Academic All-Americans in school history, and first honorees since Nate Freiman received the First Team distinction in 2009.
Jarvis, a native of Franklin, Tenn., owned a 3.34 GPA majoring in mechanical engineering. The Duke right-hander earned Collegiate Baseball All-American First Team honors following the season, becoming the 13
th All-American in program history. He was named ACC Pitcher of the Week twice this season, highlighted by tossing the 31
st perfect game in NCAA Division I history on Feb. 21, against Cornell.
Rothenberg, a native of Boca Raton, Fla., owned a 3.72 GPA majoring in political science. The Blue Devil backstop closed out the shortened campaign with a team-high on-base percentage to lead the ACC, while ranking first on the team in RBI with 17. He owned a reached-base streak of 24 games, dating back to the final eight contests of the 2019 season, while placing second in the conference in hit-by-pitch with eight.
Duke's two selections ties for the most of any school, as four other institutions had multiple honorees—Army West Point, Georgia Tech, Navy and New Mexico State. The recognitions served as the first career Academic All-America honors for both Jarvis and Rothenberg.
