It appears the Rams may be getting Cam Akers back this week

The Los Angeles Rams selected running back Cam Akers with their second round selection this past April, but unfortunately he has not been active for them. However, as Week 5 is nearing, it appears Akers is ready to make his return to the Rams and leave his footprint on the game.

In Week 1, in the Los Angeles defeat of the Dallas Cowboys, Akers averaged under three yards per carry. On the day, Akers finished with just 39 yards rushing on 14 carries; he added another catch for just four yards in his professional debut. As the Rams look to take on the Washington Football Team, they will be looking to move to 4-1 on the year, and Akers will be looking to comeback with vengeance.

While Akers was out with an injury, he left the door cracked for the tandem of Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson to take control of the Rams’ backfield. Neither were overly efficient in last week’s win over the New York Giants, so there is always room for Akers to sneak back into the game plan and prove he was missed.

However, he is going to have to fight through the mud of the depth chart, and will have to take the limited carries he gets count.

What is his fantasy outlook?

Do not rush Akers back into your lineup during your Week 5 matchup. Not only is he going to have to prove he deserves touches over the likes of Brown and Henderson, but the Rams will be going up against a stout defensive front in Washington’s.

The wildcard could be in points-per-reception (PPR) leagues, as Akers has the ability to catch passes out of the backfield naturally. If you are deperate, then sure, maybe give Akers a go and hope he catches a handful of passes out of the backfield. However, if you are not stressed for a running back or a FLEX, leave Akers on the bench.
