A Kmart shopper has warned air fryer cooks their popular appliance could have a secret crack on it which might lead to burns.

The Victorian man named James claims his partner scalded her hands and feet when she tried to remove the tray and basket from her 5.3 litre Kmart air fryer.

Users normally press a button on the top of the handle to release the basket but on this occasion the basket just fell to the ground leaving the woman with blistered burns.

After James had a closer look he saw the crack.

'It's easy to miss and unless you check your handle, it could be a disaster waiting to happen. I worry that this could happen to someone else. Anyone could have a crack like this hiding in their air fryer and not even realise. It could be really dangerous,' he told 7News.

He posted photos online showing the small crack and said the appliance was not old, overloaded or used excessively.

The incident happened on Boxing Day when Jame's partner was cooking hash browns.

He said her burns could easily have been much worse.

'Our cats are often under our feet and they could've been harmed if the basket dropped on them. And if someone with a young child was in the same situation, they could be harmed also,' he said.

'Many [people] wouldn't realise just how hot the baskets and the underside of the air fryer can get. It's really, really hot and can be dangerous when something like this happens.'

Kmart has been contacted for comment regarding the damage related to their popular air fryer

The retail giant told Daily Mail Australia they are looking into what happened.

'At Kmart, we’re committed to the health and safety of all our products,' a spokespersons said.

'We take this commitment extremely seriously and are currently liaising directly with the customer to investigate this further.'

James was offered a replacement air fryer but opted for store credit instead.
