For a traditionally low-scoring sport, the energy and stamina required on the soccer field is amplified, especially when the ball hits the back of the net. And, as a finisher, it’s your job to perfect your stance, make that connection, and score. With IMG Academy's How-To soccer drill videos, watch as coaches focus on the techniques and body positioning needed to become a better finisher both inside and outside the box.
In this video, you will be introduced to three soccer drills to become a better finisher. Watch how student-athletes perform these drills with instruction on stance, positioning, and ultimately, making contact and following through with the ball. Each drill is broken down to provide specific steps on three drills for players:
- Shooting to Score Goals Drill
- Shooting from Long Range Drill
- Bending Balls to Score Drill
For the Shooting to Score Goals Drill from inside the box, players will plant their foot with their chest over the ball before using the inside of their foot to hit the ball with a complete follow-through, landing on the kicking foot. With the Shooting from Long Range Drill, players are positioned outside the box with their toes pointed down, ankle locked, hitting the middle of the ball with the laces. And, with the Bending Balls to Score Drill, the focus is on taking the ball out of the air by reading its flight and leaning forward with momentum before hitting the ball with the inside of the foot.
