HUDSON — Alexander Do of Hudson, 14, a Boy Scout with Troop 102, was awarded 98 Merit Badges in a single ceremony held recently at the Hudson American Legion Post 184.

Alexander, a scout for not quite a year-and-a-half, not only has amassed a total of 103 Merit Badges, during that brief time he also has achieved the rank of Star Scout, awarded at that same court of honor. It is the sixth out of eight steps to Eagle Scout, scouting’s highest award.

Alexander says he earned that astounding number of Merit Badges by making best use of his time during the worldwide virus pandemic, Badges ranged from critical thinking, namely the Computer Programming badge, to the more outdoors and adventurous, such as the Climbing badge.

By the Fall of 2021 Alexander says he expects to be attain the coveted rank of Eagle Scout; from new scout to Eagle in two and a half years.

He is a student and member of the Junior ROTC at LaSalle Institute, a college preparatory school in Troy, and he plans to attend Wharton, the business college at the University of Pennsylvania.

Shown with Alexander is Mike Madison, Assistant Scout Master, also recognized with a world award called the Wood Badge for achievements in a scouting leadership program for adult leaders. The aim of Wood Badge courses is to develop better scout leaders by teaching advanced leadership skills and by creating a bond and commitment to the international scouting movement.

Boy Scout Troop 102 has been sponsored by the Hudson Legion Post for nearly 100 years.
