Jesse Lingard’s loan away from Manchester United is looking like one of the best deals of the season.
Lingard struck his sixth goal in eight games to help West Ham to a win over Wolves.
The goal was a fantastic one, with Lingard picking the ball up inside his own half, running at the Wolves defence and firing it past the goalkeeper.
It was the sort of strike we have not seen from Lingard at United for around three years.
Lingard’s goal had former Manchester United teammate Romelu Lukaku stunned for words.
There was more to come from Lingard, with the United loanee producing a Dimitar Berbatov style spin near the corner flag in a move which led to West Ham’s second goal.
He provided the assist for West Ham’s third, which proved crucial, with the game ending 3-2.
Lingard has West Ham up in a lofty fourth position, ahead of Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham. They will fancy their chances of staying in this position, with eight games remaining.
What should United do with Lingard?
The better Lingard plays, the better it is for United. But the conversation will also turn to whether United should keep him.
There will never be a better time to cash in, especially with Euro 2021 upcoming and Lingard’s price tag could rise as a result of him featuring in the tournament.
United could cash in for around £30 million, a price the club would have to take, to fund our own incoming transfer activities.
Lingard looks really happy at West Ham, and he won’t want to come back to Old Trafford to sit on the bench.
The best for all parties would be to move on, providing a high offer comes in. There could be a few more clubs interested along with West Ham.
