Raiders TE Darren Waller is a ‘dominant player,’ but Patriots ‘got something for him this weekend’

Darren Waller is one of the NFL’s most unique tight ends.

The 6-foot-6 Raider clocked a 4.46 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine in 2015, and lit the Saints up for 12 catches, 103 yards and a touchdown last week on Monday Night Football.

“I mean, he can play anything," JC Jackson said. "Like they say, he’s a receiver, it’s not (that) he’s a tight end. He’s just an athlete, all around if you ask me. He can do it all. He got the body. He got the hands. He got the speed. So he’s a dominant football player.”

Having said that, Jackson thinks the Patriots have something up their sleeve.

“I mean, the guy is good, man,” Jackson said. "That’s all I’ve got to say about him. He’s good and we’ve got something for him this weekend.”

The third-year cornerback has endured a whirlwind two weeks on a personal level. Jackson became a father for the second time, as his daughter, Journey, was born after New England’s season opening win over the Dolphins.

“That’s a big blessing for me this year outside of football," Jackson said.

Life with a newborn can be challenging for an NFL player game-planning for the likes of Waller, but Jackson has been making it work.

“I mean, as a dad, as a father, as a man, you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do," Jackson said. "I’ve gotta do what I’ve gotta do. I don’t really know what to say on that one. Like I said, I’ll just do what I’ve gotta do. I try to be a great father when I’m at home and a great teammate when I’m — like, just carry from what I do here, try to carry that at home. Like have the same energy I do on the field and with my teammates at home with my family.”

It’s been a life-changing experience.

“It’s just really motivated me, man," Jackson said. "Like, I just want to go and do everything right. Just be great. I just want to be great now.”
