Maybe you should think twice about saving that Chick-fil-A sauce packet

It’s been said that the sauce makes the dish, and many Chick-fil-A fans will agree that the little sauce packet is an integral part of their meal. This is so much so that they’ll go to great lengths to get extras to take home.

A report by Mashed, suggests that for those who have a “designated sauce packet drawer,” it may be a good idea to do some downsizing of your stash. To be specific, Mashed said you need to “let go of those coveted packets of Chick-fil-A’s Polynesian sauce.”

The Polynesian sauce is extremely popular. Mashed cited the Chick-fil-A website, which said the sauce’s delicious sweet and sour flavor is a favorite of folks on the U.S. East Coast.

So, if you’re wondering how you could possibly part with these packets of deliciousness, Mashed suggests you consider a “fatal flaw” discovered by fellow sauce hoarders around the internet.

There is an exploding sauce problem.

Mashed cited users on Reddit, who said that when they’ve stockpiled Chick-fil-A’s Polynesian sauce, the tasty condiment has eaten “right through the packaging,” resulting in a sticky mess.

It seems others around the country are experiencing the same “exploding sauce packet” problem, the Mashed report said.

Mashed cited Reddit user ShanNtrav who asked, “Does anyone find the Polynesian sauce eats through the packaging over a few weeks? I keep a zip lock bag of fast food sauces and it has happened a few times. The Polynesian sauce opens up and gets everywhere!”

Mashed cited several followers who responded: “They just easily explode. Not sure why,” while another user, who it’s presumed is a Chick-fil-A employee, added, “I’ve even had times when working and stocking the Poly sauce, I’ve found it randomly exploded in boxes...I guess that’s just how it is.”

Social media is full of exasperated stories from people who have experienced the exploding Polynesian sauce packet. Mashed suggests you search Chick-fil-A exploded Polynesian sauce on Twitter and you’ll see numerous stories, like one from user @alixhaley, who tweeted, “Well the Chick-Fil-A Polynesian sauce that I keep on deck in my purse in case of emergencies exploded today so that’s that, lesson learned.”

Or, another tweet from @katxo926, who said: “The chick fil a Polynesian sauce I had in my jacket pocket just exploded everywhere and now I smell like a chicken sandwich and waffle fries but is that really a bad thing”

There is a solution to the problem.

Chick-fil-A provided a solution to the exploding sauce packet in April 2020, the Mashed report noted. The chain started to bottle its famous signature sauces, making them available for purchase in select Targets, Publix, and other retailers.

However, Polynesian sauce fans will need to reconcile themselves to the realization that in order to stop the mess, they’ll need to pay $3.49 for something that for years they’ve been getting for free, Mashed explained.
