MACOMB COUNTY, MI -- A homeowner believes his personal politics led someone to throw an explosive through his window Saturday morning, causing extensive damage to his house. According to WDIV Detroit, the homeowner -- who has not been identified for safety reasons -- was upstairs in his home shortly after midnight when he and his girlfriend heard a pair of explosions.

The man described the sound as resembling a transformer blowing up, while adding the explosions caused his house to shake. Once he got downstairs, he saw his living room filling with smoke and he noticed the damage. Some of the walls cracked and a hole was blown in the floor of the living room.

The man rushed to get his girlfriend and a dog out of the house while they waited for police to arrive.

Surveillance video captured by the homeowner and a neighbor show the explosions, one of which was inside the home and another that was outside near a car. The homeowner’s video shows the suspect light the first explosive and throw it into the home just before it explodes. The video also captures the second explosion that didn’t appear to do as much damage, according to the station.

While police are continuing to investigate the matter, the homeowner told WDIV that he believes he was targeted because of his support for President Donald Trump.

“Some people say because I’m a pretty avid Trump supporter,” he said. “I always have my sign up.”

The homeowner has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest of the person who threw the explosives. The victim says he wants to catch the suspect, regardless of having to offer a reward because he says the money is worth finding the person “who’s trying to catch my house on fire and possibly kill me.”

The St. Clair Shores Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information regarding the matter is asked to contact the department at 586-445-5300.
