SBA Disaster Fire Loans Approved for E. WA, Idaho Counties

The Small Business Administration (SBA) announced Wednesday multiple Eastern WA and Idaho counties will be eligible for residents-business owners to apply for Disaster Loans.

With the disaster declaration for Whitman County, including the town of Malden where 80 percent of the buildings burned, the following counties can also apply for relief, according to the SBA:

"This declaration is for damages received during the wildfires and straight-line winds that occurred between Sept. 1 and Sept. 19, 2020. Residents and businesses who suffered damage in Adams, Asotin, Columbia, Franklin, Garfield, Lincoln & Spokane counties in Washington."

The winds whipped wildfires through these areas, destroying thousands of acres of grazelands, farming equipment and buildings Labor Day weekend 2020. According to the SBA:

"Residents and businesses should first file their insurance claims. Please do not wait for your insurance to settle before applying for SBA assistance. SBA may be able to get your money to you sooner than your insurance, and we will work with your insurance to make certain that no double-payments occur."
