CHENNAI: Dubbing his party manifesto as the ‘second hero’ of the party in the forthcoming assembly election in Tamil Nadu, DMK chief M K Stalin released the document that focused on benefits for women. Hindu temples and pilgrims too come under the benefit spotlight.
Releasing the manifesto at the party headquarters in Chennai on Saturday, Stalin said special courts would be established to try charges against AIADMK ministers and bring down fuel and domestic gas cylinder cost.
Stalin described the list of candidates contesting the election as the ‘first hero’.
Maternity leave for woman government employees would be increased from the current six months to one year, women would be given free bus passes in town buses, and special cybercrime police stations to investigate crimes against women, said Stalin, reading out the salient features of the around 400-page manifesto.
Keeping the steep fuel prices in mind, the price of petrol and diesel would be reduced by Rs 5 and Rs 4 per litre respectively besides bringing down the cost of a domestic gas cylinder by Rs 100, he said.
The government would enact law to ensure 75% jobs to Tamils in the state, while it would give priority to first-generation graduates on employment opportunities in the government sector, said the DMK manifesto. It further said a separate ministry would be set up to implement all the announced schemes
On the education front, the manifesto said education loans of students aged below 30 will be waived. Free milk would be served for school students. In the first session of the new assembly, the DMK would pass a law against NEET, said the manifesto. The DMK government would increase the working days under MGNREGA scheme from 100 days to 150 days. MetroRails would be established in Coimbatore, Trichy and other cities in the state, the manifesto added.

He promised to allocate Rs 1,000 crore to renovate Hindu temples and organize consecration ceremonies besides sanctioning Rs 25,000 to one lakh pilgrims visiting famous Hindu temples. Rope car facilities would be set up for all hillock shrines, said Stalin.
The DMK government would urge the Centre to announce Thirukkural as a national textbook and telecast live the TN assembly proceedings.
The DMK would establish special courts to try corruption charges against AIADMK ministers. “Property tax will not be increased even after people recover from the impact of Covid,” Stalin said.
