ANN ARBOR, MI – A Michigan Medicine employee assaulted and knocked out in a hospital parking garage Saturday night woke find his car on fire, police say.
Police and fire crews were called about 8:50 p.m. Feb. 6, to the P1 parking structure at the University of Michigan Medical Center campus for the report of the car engulfed in flames, according to the Ann Arbor Fire Department.
Fire crews were able to knock the fire down quickly, limiting damage to the fifth floor of the structure, fire officials said.
The vehicle’s owner told police he was assaulted near his vehicle at about 7:50 p.m., knocked unconscious during the attack and woke to find his car on fire, according to the University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security.
The man was taken to the hospital’s emergency department where he was treated for minor injures and released, police said.
There are no known witnesses to the incident, which remains under investigation, police said, adding they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
Portions of the parking structure are temporarily closed, pending safety inspections.
