BOSTON -- Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. was held out of Monday’s lineup with a sore left wrist, manager Ron Roenicke said.

Bradley Jr. rolled his wrist during Boston’s road series against the Rays earlier this month. While trying to make a diving catch, his glove caught on the turf and flipped his wrist back.

Bradley Jr. has been playing through the injury but has been held out of the lineup for three straight days. The Red Sox faced two lefty starters in their last two games against the Yankees, making the decision to sit Bradley Jr. easier for Roenicke.

“Jackie’s wrist has been bothering him,” Roenicke said. “That’s part of the reason why I didn’t play him yesterday, the other part was trying to get the right-handers in there. But it’s still a little sore today so we’ll give him another day. I’m hoping he can be in there tomorrow but I’ll just have to wait and see how he comes out of working with the trainers today and where he ends up.

Bradley Jr’s has affected him off and on since the Tampa Bay series, Roenicke said. In his last nine games, Bradley Jr. is hitting .193 (6-for-31) with one extra-base hit.

“I just know that he feels it,” Roenicke said. “Not all the time, but he’ll take a swing and you notice him back off for a while. Then he’ll get back in there and swing again. At times, yes, there’s no doubt it affects some of his swings.”

Vazquez out with sore heel

Catcher Christian Vazquez is also out of the lineup after being removed in the seventh inning of Monday’s loss with a sore heel.

Vazquez could play Wednesday against Philadelphia.

“Christian, I’d like to give the day off if we can today, completely,” Roenicke said. “We’ll see later on if the trainers think he’s okay to hit. He’s better. He told me he was better today. He’s getting worked on also. They’ll come back and let me know what they think for the game and what they think for tomorrow.”

Benintendi will be 'out for a while'

Roenicke said there was no new update on outfielder Andrew Benintendi, who was placed on the injured list with a strained right rib cage last week.

Roenicke expects Benintendi to be out more than 10 days.

“He’s going to be out for a while,” the manager said. “He continues to come in and get treatment but there’s nothing new. That just has to heal up. Once it heals up, he’s got to start doing some activities to see how much he can tolerate.”
