Missing hunter found by U.S. Border Patrol on Michigan island

U.S. Border Patrol agents have located a missing hunter on Michigan’s Drummond Island.

DRUMMOND ISLAND, MI – U.S. Border Patrol agents have located a missing hunter on Michigan’s Drummond Island.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office began looking for the missing man from Caro around 6 p.m. after he failed to return to his hunting camp on Monday. He was last seen entering a wooded area near E. Bass Cove Road south of Big Shoal Bay.

The missing hunter was eventually found safe and was checked by Drummond EMS.

He said he had fallen asleep and woke up after dark. He eventually lost his way until he was found by U.S. Border Patrol agents.

“Thank you to everyone involved in the search,” a police statement reads. “The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all hunters to take a GPS unit or map and compass with you whenever hunting an area you are unfamiliar with. We also recommend that you take a fire starter and some food and water with you.”

The Drummond Island Fire Department also assisted in the search.
