Rootead’s birth doula program aims to lower Kalamazoo’s racial disparity in infant mortality

KALAMAZOO, MI -- The racial disparity in Kalamazoo’s infant mortality rates is being addressed, in part, by expanding access to birth doulas in the community.

Last February, Cradle Kalamazoo, the community initiative focused on lowering infant mortality, presented in its annual findings that Kalamazoo’s infant mortality rate was decreasing but a racial gap was widening.
