The Boston Red Sox have announced 22 additional non-roster invitees to big league spring training camp, including top prospects Triston Casas, Jarren Duran, Jeter Downs, Thad Ward and 2020 first-round draft pick Nick Yorke.
Josh Winckowski, the right-handed pitching prospect who Boston acquired in the Andrew Benintendi trade Wednesday, received an invite. So did righty Frank German, the prospect Boston acquired with Adam Ottavino from the Yankees in January.
In all, Boston invited 30 non-roster players to camp.
Casas, Downs, Duran, Yorke and Ward all are top 10 organizational prospects.
Baseball America has Casas, a 21-year-old power-hitting first baseman, ranked No. 47 on its Top 100 list. It ranked Downs, the top prospect from the Mookie Betts trade, No. 71.
The Red Sox will hold their first workout for pitchers and catchers Feb. 18. The first full-squad workout will take place at the JetBlue Park complex Feb. 22.
Boston’s first spring training game is scheduled for Feb. 28 against the Twins across town at Hammond Field.
Spring training games at JetBlue Park will be at approximately 24% capacity. No fans will be allowed to attend workouts on the backfields because of COVID-19. In previous years, fans could attend workouts for free.
Spring training games have been regionalized to limit travel across Florida. Boston will play only against the Twins, Braves, Orioles, Pirates and Rays
