Need a laugh? Watch this Muskegon area principal rap ‘Some Good News’ to students

Reeths-Puffer principal

Reeths-Puffer Principal Dan Beckeman released a hilarious video of himself rapping about good news for his students, inspired by the viral "Some Good News" videos by actor John Krasinski.

We could all use a little good news during these tough times – and Dan Beckeman is here to help.

The Reeths-Puffer High School principal shared a video last week of himself rapping about positive news, which he hopes will bring a laugh to students and staff of the Muskegon area high school during the coronavirus crisis.

Beckeman said the video was inspired by the weekly YouTube show “Some Good News” by actor John Krasinski, which has aimed to spread smiles during the coronavirus crisis by sharing stories about people doing good around the world.

“One of our staff members thought it would be a good idea to create ‘SGN’ videos for our students to bring a bit of joy to their lives,” Beckeman told MLive. “We had a few staff members kick it off and I thought I would do something to show my support of our students and staff.”

The humorous video, which has over 8,000 views on YouTube, features Beckeman rapping about bits of good news, like incoming warm weather and the perseverance of Reeths-Puffer students and staff during the crisis.

“I’m guessing that most of my students and my staff were shocked that I would consider creating a rap video,” he said. “It’s not often that I even wear a hat -- backwards for that matter -- and for students to see me wearing a hat backwards rapping about school events, my guess was, there would be a laugh or two as a result of sending out the video.”

While Beckeman said he doesn’t have plans for another video in the future, he hopes his video will inspire educators around the state to post creative videos in an effort to cheer up students.
