The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport has already been a hot seller for the brand, but despite strong demand, Ford has been offering some attractive finance incentive deals. Now that Bronco Two-Door and Four-Door ordering is open, we’ve been able to see how lease and finance payments play out. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the big Bronco will be getting any promotions at launch.
The Ford Bronco Sport is currently offered with some great promotions, namely a 0 percent APR plan on some loans, and a $500 rebate with all models. This could actually make the Bronco more expensive than some Bronco Sport models to finance despite a lower MSRP, because of the significantly higher interest rates.
Cars Direct found a Four-Door Ford Bronco Base with an MSRP of $34,695 would have a monthly payment of $655 with zero down on a five year loan. In the end, this equates to $4,589 in interest. This would push the total cost of ownership (for the just the loan) close to $40,000, which would place the total cost near a fully loaded Ford Bronco Sport Badlands, a higher trim level. Ford currently offers the Bronco Sport with a much lower 0.9 percent APR plan on a 60 month loan.
Basically, this means you could buy a lower trim Ford Bronco, but end up paying the same or more over the duration of the finance deal than a Bronco Sport of a higher trim level. Leasing also brings some interesting comparisons between the Bronco siblings. The Sport has significantly better lease rates, but the Bronco has significantly better residual values. Just like financing, you could end up with a better deal on a Bronco than a Bronco Sport, despite the incentives of the smaller SUV.
To make things more confusing yet, some dealers have been putting markups on the Bronco Sport as high as $10,000, and Ford isn’t stopping anyone from doing the same on the Bronco when it comes out this summer.
But let’s not forget, the Bronco and Bronco Sport are very different vehicles, and there’s a good chance many customers will go straight to one option without even considering the other. And at the end of the day, it really comes down to what model, trim level, options and cost strike the right balance for each buyer. It’s also worth noting the Ford Bronco could get incentive deals like the Sport down the line, but maybe not in the first model year. The Bronco is the most anticipated vehicle of 2021, so it’s really not too surprising to see Ford reaping all the benefits.
