West Michigan brothers accused in Whitmer kidnapping plot now out of jail

ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI -- Twin brothers accused in the plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer have been released from jail on bond.

William and Michael Null, 38, bonded out of the Grand Traverse County Jail on Thursday, Dec. 3.

A judge on Wednesday changed their bond from $250,000 to what’s known as a 10 percent bond, meaning they had to post $25,000.

The Null brothers are accused of participating in a foiled plot to abduct Whitmer from her vacation home in Antrim County. They participated in military-style training exercises, planning meetings and acted as “lookouts” during surveillance of Whitmer’s vacation home in September, according to state police.

Arrests in the case stem from a multi-state investigation that began in early 2020 and led to the arrest of 14 people with connections to a militia calling itself the Wolverine Watchmen.

As part of their bond conditions, they can have no contact with anyone from the Wolverine or Liberty Michigan militia groups, must observe a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, can have no contact with any government official except regarding their case, and they must be on a GPS tether with travel only allowed to reach a job.

Michael Null lives in Plainwell and William Null in Shelbyville. Both live in rural areas.
