PONTIAC, MI -- A 27-year-old man is dead and a 59-year-old man was injured after a third man allegedly attacked them with a machete, according to Fox 2 Detroit. A 51-year-old was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after he allegedly attacked the men in a house on Oliver Street in Pontiac.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office was called to the house around 5 a.m. Tuesday after one of the victims and a witness escaped the house following the attack. Police say the 59-year-old man alleges the suspect came to the house to buy prescription drugs. When the suspect was unable to get the drugs he wanted, he attacked the two men with a machete.

A witness to the attack said the suspect tried to get them to grab a steak knife and fight him as well, but the witness did not get involved physically.

The 27-year-old was found in a pool of blood inside the home and was already dead when officers arrived. The other victim suffered wounds to his head and received treatment.

Police eventually caught the suspect after following a trail of blood leading from the house where the attack took place. The suspect was found unconscious in the backyard of a neighboring house on Marquette Street of a suspected overdose. Police took the suspect to the hospital, where he remains in custody.
