Baseball’s not-so-sweet ‘cup of coffee’: Springfield Giants alum Bob Taylor still grateful for meager ‘annuity’

SPRINGFIELD — Bob Taylor wants people to know he’s grateful for the check that comes in the mail. Prior to 2011, he didn’t even get that.

Nor does the Springfield resident harbor one iota of resentment toward today’s Major League Baseball players, who make multimillion-dollar salaries while he accepts a pension — technically known as a “non-qualified retirement annuity” - of $2,500 a year.
