Saginaw police seek man considered armed and dangerous wanted in murder case, woman’s shooting

SAGINAW, MI — Police in Saginaw are seeking the public’s help in locating a man wanted in connection with a 2019 murder as well as a shooting that occurred Thursday, Jan. 7.

The Saginaw Major Crimes Unit issued a statement about 9 p.m. Thursday that it is currently looking for Joseph Thorton Black, 25, a Black male who is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. Black is from the Saginaw area and is wanted on an open murder warrant issued by authorities on Jan. 29, 2020.

Black also is wanted in connection with a shooting of a 26-year-old woman that occurred about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in the 1100 block of Brockway Road in Saginaw. Family confirmed the victim in that shooting remained alive as of Thursday night.

Police consider Black armed and dangerous and are advising the public to not approach him.

Black’s warrant stems from the homicide of Richard L. Townsend Jr., 26, found shot in front of a residence in the 3100 block of Mysylvia Drive in Buena Vista Township.
