India’s most beautiful airport: From Jan 23, fly direct from Delhi to Pakyong
NEW DELHI: India’s and possibly the world’s most beautiful airportPakyong in Sikkim — will soon be a direct flight away from Delhi. SpiceJet will start a daily Delhi-Pakyong direct from January 23, 2021.
SpiceJet was the only airline that used to fly there with a daily Kolkata-Pakyong-Kolkata flight after the airport opened in September 2018. It had stopped this flight in June 2019 due to infra issues at the airport.
The airline was awarded two routes for Pakyong in August 2018 — one each from Kolkata and Delhi — under ude desh ka aam nagrik (UDAN) scheme.
“Pakyong airport is the only operational civil airport handling commercial flight operations in the State and SpiceJet will be the first and only airline to offer daily direct air connectivity between Delhi and the North-Eastern State of Sikkim. The airline will deploy a Bombardier Q400 aircraft on the Delhi-Pakyong-Delhi route,” SpiceJet said in a statement. It has an introductory promotional fare starting at Rs 4,310 on Delhi-Pakyong and Pakyong-Delhi route.
The airline is also adding a second frequency on Delhi-Leh-Delhi sector from January 27, 2021.
SpiceJet CMD Ajay Singh said: “Sikkim is one of the most beautiful and sought after travel destinations in India. Our exclusive flights from Delhi to Pakyong (Gangtok) will cater to the growing demand of leisure travellers and backpackers who wanted to visit this beautiful city in the foothills of Himalayas. With the launch of these new flights, we aim to make journeys shorter and the stays longer at these beautiful destinations.”
