Youth having affair with married woman found dead in canal

Ludhiana, September 16

A 29-year-old youth, who had an affair with a married woman, was found dead in a canal in Dakha. After the incident, the Tibba police have registered an abetment to suicide case against a man with whose wife the deceased had an affair. The family of the deceased suspected that their son committed suicide due to alleged torture by woman’s husband.

The deceased has been identified as Nitin Soni, a resident of New Shashtri Nagar. The suspect has been identified as Baljit Singh, a resident of HIG Flats, Moti Nagar.

Father of the deceased, Subash Chandar, told the police that on September 5, his son left home saying that he had got a contract to installtiles at some location in Phillaur. “The same day at around 4 pm, my son called and told me to talk to Baljit Singh over phone. Baljit told me that my son had an affair with his wife and he had already submitted a complaint at the Moti Nagar police station. He asked me to discourage my son from continuing affair with his wife,” stated Subash. “After September 5, my son did not return home for three days. On September 8, a missing complaint of my son was filed at the Tibba police station,” he added.

The same day, Dakha police called Subash and informed that motorcycle of his son was lying near canal in Dakha. Divers were called at the spot to locate his son’s body, but in vain. Later, on September 14, his son’s body was found floating in the Dakha canal.

Subash alleged that his son had committed suicide due to alleged harassment by Baljit. “It seemed that my sob jumped into the canal and committed suicide,” he added. The investigation officer, ASI Jora Singh, said, “Raid is being conducted to nab the suspect.” The boy did not leave any suicide note, the ASI added. — TNS
