Apple iPad Air 2020: On Sale Date Just Revealed, With Pre-Orders Live

The next iPad Air is a radical departure from previous models, and it has attracted a lot of attention since its announcement last month. But Apple wouldn’t say when you could buy it more than it would be some time in October.

Frustrating, then, if you’re eager to get your hands on one.

In the last few minutes, Apple announced that pre-orders would start now – the Buy button is now live on the iPad Air product page – but that while orders have now started, availability is from next Friday, October 23.

That, you’ll notice, is the same day as the new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 hit stores, so it could prove to be quite the day at Apple Stores around the world. Of course, you can order online or reserve online and pick up in store, which is the most efficient way to go to the Apple Store, I’d say.

The new iPad Air comes in a range of colors, more shades than we’ve seen on any Apple tablet before. As well as Space Gray, Silver and Rose Gold, there’s also a pleasant pastel shade, Green, and a lovely-looking Sky Blue.

Storage levels start at 64GB though 256GB is also available and the only other choice you need to make is whether to go wi-fi only or wi-fi plus cellular.

Prices start at $599 – quite a bit more than the last model cost – for wi-fi only, and $729 with cellular capabilities. Pricing in the U.K. is from £579 and £709 respectively.

Despite that increase in price, expect initial demand to be keen: the fastest-ever processor in any Apple device, an all-screen front, compatibility with Apple Pencil version 2 and Magic Keyboard, not to mention a fingerprint sensor that for the first time on any Apple product is mounted on the side button will all contribute to brisk business, I think.
