MIDWAY — Eight golfers won two matches Monday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Utah Senior State Amateur Championship at Wasatch Mountain Golf Course.

Spanish Fork’s Chris Hermansen had to play extra holes in both of his matches, going 19 holes to defeat Deuce Brown in the morning and 19 holes to eliminate Eric Yergensen in the afternoon.

Former winner Brigham Gibbs won each of his matches by 5 and 3 counts in beating Randy Hicken and former champion Kirk Siddens. He’ll face fellow Salt Lake Country Club member Jon Wright in Tuesday’s quarterfinals after Wright defeated Dan Hatch and Jeff Chugg.

Others moving on to the quarterfinals were former BYU golfer Eric Rustand, Russell Hook, Vaughn Lloyd, Steve Maxwell and Paul Cannon.

Winners in the Super Seniors were Michael Hacker, Doug Marriott, Todd Barker, Kurt Bernhisel, Rob Bachman, Bill Probst, Steve Smith and Mick Mahler.

Net winners included David Hunt, Doug Bowers, Randy Krueger, Jeff Smith, Donny Tyndall, Paul Mora, Tracy Smith and Rod Zundel.

In the Women’s Division, Marie Needham will meet Elizabeth Jones, while Karen Seaman will face Annette Gaiotti in Tuesday’s semifinals.

Finals in men’s and women’s divisions will be played Wednesday morning.
