A man who was a fugitive from Pennsylvania has pleaded guilty to attempted murder in an incident in which a 71-year-old town of Barker resident was stabbed several times.

30-year-old Matthew Bonser of Nanticoke, Pennsylvania had been accused of breaking into an Ellerson Road home and attacking a man on April 17.

Bonser then ran to a home on Route 11 and threatened a person with a knife to steal some car keys. He drove off in the stolen vehicle.

Bonzer was pursued by Broome County sheriff's deputies and state troopers in a high-speed chase. The stolen vehicle hit a car and a pole on Colesville Road in the town of Kirkwood. An 87-year-old man who was driving the other car was seriously hurt.

In addition to the attempted murder count, Bonser pleaded guilty to assault and burglary. He faces up to 20 years in prison. Sentencing has been scheduled for December 17.
