According to a Pine River-Backus Schools post on Facebook, the school district extended its distance learning mode for grades 7-12 until Monday, Nov. 16. The district had announced Tuesday, Oct. 27, that those grades would change from remote to distance learning for the rest of this week.
"With a significant number of staff in quarantine and positive cases in our school the extension is needed," the Facebook post reads. "At this time the elementary is not affected."
Students in grades 7-12 should continue to follow their regular class schedule by logging into their classes with each teacher. Though the secondary students already started the school year in a remote format, it differs from the distance learning of last spring, with students logging into each class via Zoom at the appointed time and essentially taking an online class.
The district has offered in-person options for students who need extra help or for whom virtual classes are not working. And Fridays have been flex days for students to come to the school and meet face-to-face with teachers if they need. The in-person options will not be available during this distance learning time.
Also effective immediately, all athletics will also be on a two-week restart until Nov. 16. This includes all games and practices.
